The Schauinsland, from where you can enjoy views over Freiburg, is less than an hour away: in 20 minutes, you are on the Blauen and can watch the paragliders taking off; within 20 minutes you can reach Bürgeln castle with its views of the Rhine plateau and Alsace, visit the castle, wander along the trails and enjoy a good cup of coffee.

Black Forest in winter

The Black Forest is especially magical in winter. Many towns and villages hold traditional Christmas markets with mulled wine, hot chestnuts and lots of opportunities to walk through the snow. Sports lovers can also enjoy winter in the Black Forest by going skiing or tobogganing followed by après-ski.

Our campsite is the perfect starting point for tours of the Black Forest. As we are in the valley, we are easily reached even in bad weather; from here, you can go on mountain tours by car or as part of an organised bus or rail trip. After an expedition in the snow, warm up in our marvellous health and beauty oasis and enjoy a glass of homemade mulled wine at the flickering open fire in our restaurant. We offer special arrangements for Christmas and New Year.

Mountains and forests

One of the most popular destinations for our guests is the 1165 m Hochblauen, which you can see from our campsite. It is the last high mountain in the southern Back Forest, and from its peak you can enjoy glorious panoramic views over the Rhine valley, the Feldberg and the Swiss Juras as far as the Alps. In good weather, a lot of paragliders and hang-gliders start their flights from here. The southern Black Forest is also dominated by the 1414m Belchen with its striking bare summit and ridge. You can reach the peak on foot or by cable railway. A cool beer and hearty snack awaits hardy walkers at the top.

From Müllheim, you can drive up into the Black Forest to the Neuenweg, where you can enjoy scenic walks, for example to the Kälbelescheuer, where you can relax over a cosy meal. Drive over the Neuenweg, and as you go down into the valley, you will reach the Nonnenmattweiher, a small, exquisitely beautiful lake which constitutes the remains of an Ice Age glacier. Of course there is plenty more to discover in the Black Forest: just ask our friendly staff at reception for more tips for exploring the region.
